Call for implementing Fatigue Management System becomes louder

Following the publication of the Martha report on the effects of fatigue of seafarers, BHP has issued in its monthly Safety Memo a strong recommendation and call to action : "Suggested action: Owners are advised to read the study and identify which actions can be taken to assist crews in managing fatigue, such as the implementation of a Fatigue Management Risk System, the use of devices to assist seafarers to manage sleepiness and fatigue or changes to living and working conditions to give seafarers better quality rest."
This statement demonstrate the broadly shared concern that Fatigue should be managed actively, and it also recognizes the role technology (“devices") will play in doing so. Care4C has been actively dialoguing with BHP and received strong support.
